Football.
A match has been arranged between the Otakeho aud Opunake Juniors to ba played at Otakeho to-mor-row. The following will represent Opunake:—Full-back, P. Hill; Threequarters, R. Callender, H. Brewer, T. Martin ; Halves, T. Carter, F. and A. Guy ; Forwards, J. and F. Hickey, F. Carter, Dickson, T. and W. Humphries, H. Loveridge and J. Peacock. Otakeho will be represented by—L. Baily, full-back; R. Carroll (captain), G. Doren, and A- Campbell, threequarters ; W. Glenn, J. Young, and J. Blair, halves ; Chalmors, Campbell, Hill, Falkner, Morton, Hart, Sprowl, and Buckingham, forwards. During the junior football match on Saturday last between tbe Feilding and Kia Kaha teams, no less than six accidents happened. Shortly after the game started, A. Mathesen had a fit. Erenstrom, while running for the ball, put his shoulder out. Another player had his jaw severely hurt, several teeth being displaced. Three others were knocked out. The fixtures for the tour of the New South Wales team in New Zealand have been made. They meet Taranaki on the Recreation Ground, New Plymouth, on Saturday, September Ist, leaving the. same afternoon en route for Wanganui, where they meet a combined team representing Wanganui and Manawatu. Surman, the fastest three-quarter in New South Wales, is among the team to visit us. He will requke some " nursing " at the hands of the local men, as he is a dangerous customer anywhere within 40 yards of an enemy's goal line. New Zealanders, however, will doubtless have his measure, having had a taste of his sprinting abilities some years ago when he was residing on the West Coast of the South Island. The Waimate and Star Clubs will play off for the Senior Championship on Friday, August 17th, at H#.wera. Messrs Hughes and Lambie, of 4he Taranaki " reps," have returned from their Auckland trip. Taranaki will contribute more men to the North Island team to play New South Wajes than any other province. W. Warbrick, captained theijueensland representatives against?N'.S.W. on Saturday last. The South Canterbury team on tour would appear not to be a particularly strong combination. In their initial match at Nelson on Monday last, they suffered defeat. They meet Auckland to-morrow. Considering the scattered state of the Taranaki Rugby Union District, and the consequent lack of combined practice, the performance of " our boys " in defeating Auckland in such a decisive manner, is a very meritorious one. Go one better still, Taranaki, and defeat the Cornstalks and Wellington, and thus have a clean sheet for 1894. The Feilding Club, which has won the Mauawatu Union's premiership this season, have scored 104 points, and have not had a single point registered against them. Not bad !
