We notice that Mgsqrs llaikcs, Scott, Newman and Clare are appointed school com ■ missiouci's for the district of Opiuiake, We consider it is extremely discreditable to the parents of children attending the school that a sufficient number of them could not be got to form a school committee in the ordinary course. There are a number of things that wapi attending to round the school which householders should QSly be too pleased to get done instead of showing by their neglect that they do not care whether their ch'iltlreh arc educated or not. Wc hope the bachelors pull set them an example that will shame them hfto potion when the time comes round aga?»i ffir electing a compjjttco. A romantic double suicide is reported from Italy. On the night of May 5, a young sailor, accompanied by a beautiful girl, hired a boat at Santa Lucia, and, sending away the boatman, rowed out to sea. As they did not return a, search was made, and the boat was found empty; only a woman’s hat, the sailor’s cap, and some cigarettes were to be seen. It was soon known that the vanished persons were a man-of-war’s man named Francesco Coscia, whoso parents live in Naples, and a young woman named Michelina. On May 19, at dawn of day, the American yacht Roxana, on entering the port of Naples from Corfu, saw a strange heap floating in the sea, which proved to be the two dead bodies tied together. The girl’s right arm was bound tightly to the left arm of her lover, showing that the double suicide was premeditated.
