Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth, July 20. Cattle.—At Stratford, on Tuesday, there was a good muster of stock in spite of the incessant rain. Bidding was fairly brisk, but prices were rather lower than the previous sale, the decline being most noticeable in small calves and dairy stock, except where the latter were of extra quality and close to calving, when good prices were realised. Good strong yearlings were best in demand, and all of this class sold at satisfactory rates. Calves made 24s to 38s 6d ; yearlings, 42s to 48s Gd; 18-month steers, £2 18s to £3 Is Gd ; heifers, in calf, £3 2s to £3 13s ; springers, £4 2s to £5 Is ; store cows, £3 to £3 15s ; springing do, £4 12s Gs to £6 2s Gd ; heifers and calves, £8 15s. Mr Rowe’s dairy cows were a nice lot, and wore well competed for, prices ranging from £3 IGs to £6 7s Gd ; ewes, in Jamb, 7s. At Waiwakaiho, on Tuesday, the yards were full. There were few buyers, however. The sale was the quietest I have had for some time. Most of the young cattle were passed in, and went home. Small calves made 12s to £1 4s ; good do, 26s Gd to 81s ; 12 to 18-month steers, M2 Gs Gd to £2 9s; 18-month to 2-year, £3 ; heifers, in calf, £2 12s to £3 3s; springers, £3 12s Gd to £4; store cows, £2 2s to £8 ; springing do, £8 5s to £5 15s. Greymouth Stock Market.

Geeymouth, July 16. Fat Cattle. —Although only 67 head were yarded, these were evidently in excess of the requirements, as 10 were left unsold. Perhaps the weather had something to do with it, as the sale was conducted in the midst of a perfect thunderstorm, accompanied with a cold bitter rain, which gave the shivers to everyone.
