The social which was to have taken place this evening in the Town Hall has been postponed till Monday next. A telephone office been opened at Hauiti, in the Gisborne postal district. The Financial Statement is to be delivered this evening, and a surprise is taid to be in store. On Thursday evening the Musical Society meets for practice in the Town Hall. The s.s. Aorere is to leave Wellington today for Opunake, weather permitting. The B.s Kanieri left the Mauakau for Southern ports on Saturday last. Tenders are called for the erection of a cheese factory at Awatuna. Builders are reminded that tenders close this evening for the erection of an eightroomed house at Awatuna. Mr Eennell is in Opunake, paying rents to the natives. He will be at Oeo to-morrow afternoon, and at Hawera on Friday. Tenders are called for fencing on the Auroa Koad for Mr George A. Hurley, of Manaia. A gentleman has informed us, in response to the letter of our Oaonui correspondent suggesting that Mr Maxwell be recouped the cost of the bridge erected by him at Mr Ching's, that he is prepared to give 10s provided nineteen others will do the same. We shall bo very pleased to take the names of any who arc desirous of assisting. Mrs Duffill has a notification in our advertising columns, to which we call attention. Mr Maxwell states that his remark at the Parihaka ltoad Board meeting, in reference to Mr Gain's letter, was that it was not necessary for the Board to give reasons for any action it might take when requested to do so by an individual ratepayer. The football match between Taranaki and Wanganui resulted in a win for the former by 22 to 5. For Taranaki, Lusk got three tries, H. Good two, and A. Good one. The following tenders were received by the Town Board on Thursday last for carting gravel in the town:—C. Humphries, Is Cd per yard; A. Cross, Is Cd per yard. A ballot was taken; resulting in favour of Mr Humphries. Mr W. D. Scott rfports leasing Mr Itna Moetahuna's Eltham ltoad sawmill to Messrs Wiley and Tyman. Mr W. D. Scott reports the following sales :—Section 17, Opunake suburbs, containing 10 acres:, fom Mr D. Muryhy to Air B. Vickery; section 41, Block X., Opunake Survey Distiict, 250 acres, from Mr Yickery to Mr D. Murphy. Mi N. J. Waters will open a monster cheap Bale of drapery on Saturday next in the I-Vrestora' UatiWAfcvr.
