ROAD REPAIRS.

What a small expenditure judiciously made will effect in road repairs is now evidenced in the Parihaka Riding. Our member, Mr McGloin, utuce liiri advent

into the Council, has spared neither time, trouble, nor expense in attending to his duties, and in making himself conversant with county finance and the position particularly of the part which he represents. He is ably seconded in bis efforts by his feUow member for the riding—Mr McCullnm. The expenditure in repairs throughout the length of the riding, when completed, will make the road passable for the winter, and the cost has been very small, compared with the benefit derived. A few pounds spent in season will go further than ten times the amount once roads are let get beyond control. The Heimamt Bridge is let, as is also the contract for repairs to the Oaonui, and it was sheer persistency on the part of Mr McGloin which got these works put in hand. As a rule, men who devote their time to public matters get very li't'e thinks from the atepayers, but any little shortcomings n thanks is generally made up for, with a little to spare, in abuse. We are, however, quite sure that the ratepayers, in the southern part especially, fully appreciate bis efforts on their behalf.
