PUNEHU BRIDGE.
(to the editor.) . tji-R,—lu your issue of the 10th I no.ice that you advocate the making of a ford at the Panehu stream, Eltham Road : it is presumed, merely to supply immediate wants, but this is not,, to' my mind, o made sufficiently clear. There is no question that the Ekham Road, which is a most important, if not the most important, one, being the nearest route from Opunake to the railway, and thickly settled, rec nires not only to be metalled, bat all streams to be bridged. The question of the erection of a bridge has apparently been allowed to die out, as nothing is now heard of it at the Council's meetings. It is to be hoped that by your advocating the matter unceasingly the County Council will find the ways and means of doing the work. It should be borne in mind that months ago the Council authorised the preparation of plans and specifications for the erection of a bridge. (I am not quite sure whether tenders were invited.) The importance of the subject demands prompt consideration by the Council, tha stream being about the third in magnitude upon the whole road. The Council, by undertaking to erect a bridge, might be able to arrange with Mr Watson to use the ford for a few months, thus saving the cost of making new approaches and a ford in another place.—l am, &c, A. H. Moore. .July 11th, 1894.
