Scott Smitb, solicitor, notifies that hi has money to lend in various sums. The following is the result of the election for Tnapeka Hon Larnach, 1373 ;S. McKenzie, 1319 ; majority for Larnach, 54.
Mr Edward Hifmphries, New Plymouth, has an advertisement in this issue, to which we direct our readers’ attentiou. Tenders are called for the erection of a church for the Anglican congregation at Opunake. Mr IV. Harvey, of Piaholu, has an advertisement in this issue to which we call the attentiou of the settlers in the district. Miss Granger has been appointed to the charge of the Eltham Road School to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Miss Nixon. Mr W. D. Scott reports the sale of the goodwill of lease of section 18, block X, Opunake Survey District, 51 acres, from Mr John Ciawford to Mr J. H. Hickey. Messrs Holmes arid Geary have an advertisement in this issue to which the attention of builders and others requiring timber is directed. Tickets for the Foresters’ Ball may be obtained from Messrs Newman, C; McGregor, and H. Scceombc; G. W. Gane, Oaonui; F. P. Simeon, Eahotu ; and Wagstaff Brothers, Pihama. The N.S.S. Co.’s s.s. Knnieri arrived at this port at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, and after discharging her cargo left for Waitara at 11 a.m.. She arrived at Onehunga at 12.30 p.m. yesterday. The Parihaka P.oad Board holds its usual monthly meeting on Monday next at Rahotu at the usual hour. The second of the winter assemblies, conducted by Mrs Orchard, was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday, when a very enjoyable evening was spent by those in attendance. We give a reminder of the entertainment to be given in the Town Hall on Saturday evening by Prof. J. J. Stagpoole. Pou, the noted Maori wrestler, is to appear, and a trial between him aud the Professor, who is a wrestler of note, will take place. A good evening’s amusement may be anticipated. Mr W. D. Scott, our local auctioneer, finding his Opunake yards too small to accommodate the quantity of stock coming forward, has made considerable additions to them. At his sale on Friday last they proved none too large as they were filled to thenutmost capacity, and he had one of the most successful sales which has been held in Opunake for some years. Being in the centre of the township they are very convenient for those attending sales.
