KAPONGA.
(Our Own Correspondent.)
We are looking forward to the arrival of the Opunakb Times with a good deal of pleasure, as we feel satisfied that its mission will be to look after the settlers in the bush district somewhat better than they have been looked after in the past. -
As soon as the Eltham Eoad is metalled right through (and I see a loan is raised to complete it at your end) there will be a direct line of coaches running between Opnhake and Eltham, and we shall then have the convenience of regular communication with a port on one side and the railway line on the other. We have a coach now running three times a week, but once the road is completed it will no doubt be daily. There are signs of progress and substantial improvement continually going on here in the shape of new buildings, &c., and in a short time Kaponga will be able to hold its own with any of the smaller inland towns. At the present time there is not much stirring in the district owing to the muddy state of the bye roads, but when summer sets in there will be a lot of work put in hand which will make things lively.
