81-ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING

The bi-annual council meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women’s Institutes was held in the Waimana Hall last Friday, Mi’s. Caverhijl president of the federation, presiding. There was a good attendance of delegates and members from all parts of the Federation. The meeting opened with members standing for two minutes’ silence, in memory of those who have lost their lives "in this terrible struggle for peaco and freedom. Mrs, Wylde, president of the Waimana Institute then welcomed Mrs. Caverhill and members of the executive, delegates and institute members, expressing the hope all would have an enjoyable day. Mrs. Wylde presented Mrs. Caverhill and Mrs. It. Looney with posies accompanied by the institutes’ best wishes; The hymn “Holy Father in Thy Mercy” was sung-, followed by the W.I. Song. Mrs. Caverhill extended a hearty welcome to all delegates and members, and in her address asked members not to slacken, in their W. I. work for the war effort, as hostilities were not over yet. The speaker also thanked all for their great assistance in the D'ranui Festival, which was a. great success, as a high standard of entertainment' and financially. Mrs. Caverhill asked all to help to build the world up for everlasting pence. The minutes, of the last two council meetings were read and confirmed. The roll call of delegates and their expenses was taken by Mrs. K. Armstrong. Correspondence was dealt with and remits and invitations being received from r l auranga Federation to their bi-annual council meeting and a group meeting to be held 'on November 23rd. The V.O.’s. gave short reports of what they had clone in the past six months, their activities being greatly restricted, owing to> war restrictions. After the luncheon adjournment, the six-monthly reports of institute and patriotic work were given by delegates, and were full of interest and revealed the great ajnount of work being clone for war and institute.

Time was then taken for discussion of mutual problems, which proved very interesting and instructive.

Members of the Waimana Institute Drama Circle presented a oneact comedy play entitled “Adult Education”, the players receiving a great ovation at the conclusion. The competitions for the clay were very popular, th© entries being large. The results were as follows: Patch-work Apron (16 entries): Onotiki J.

Bowl of flowers for effect (17 entries): Waimana 1, Edgecumbe 2. Best collection Biscuits from, one mixture (dripping): Waimana 1. Article made from “Home Spun Wool” : Woodlands 1. A dinner for competition was won by Mrs. G. A. Moore, Whakatane. The singing' of th© National Anthem closed proceedings.
