BAY OF PLENTY UNCON THE ANNUAL. MEETING " The annual meeting of the Bay. of Plenty Rugby Union wa.s held in the Whakatane County Chambers on urday afternoon. The balance-slifef' showed the Union was in a strong financial positon as a result of a grant of £250 from the New Zealand Rugby Union. The annual report indicated a successful season last year. The establishment of a branch of League football in the Bay caused some discussion and it was hoped that the recent visit of Mr Ned. Parata would have effect in preventing further inroads amongst the Rugby players. The prospect of a Bay team touring this year is- .very favourable and it is .likely that a team ( will travel to ttie South Island. Maori team will a!- • so visit Fiji in July. The annual school grant which usually is received late in the season from the New Zealand Rugby Union will be distributed iihmediately by the Bay Union so that the money; will be of use in assisting in. the purchase of school footballs early in the season.

Officers The election, of officers for the ensuing year resulted :— * Patron, Mr F. Burt (Matata). Vice-patron, Mr Clark (Rotorua). President, Mi- W. T. Burrett (Opotiki). Secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Henderson (Whakatane). Selectors, .Messrs S. -Finery (Rotorua). I). McEwan (Tauranga) and T. Anderson (Rangitaild). Delegates to New Zealand Rugby Union, Messrs Burrett and Headerson. A grant of £lO was made to the R'ay of Plenty Referees’ Assn, and it was decided that the appointment of referees to- all Shield games be. left in. the hands of the Referees’ Appointment Board. The games for the Hurninui Apanui Memorial Shield will commence on June 25. Tauranga being the lust challenger.
