OXFORD FOOTBALL CLUB.
An extraordinary general meeting of the Oxford Football Club took place on Tuesday evening last- the principal business being the submission of the Balance Sheet of the past year for adoption, and the election of office bearers for the ensuing season. There was a fairly numerous attendance, and Mr Michael Doody Junr. (in the unavoidable absence of the President) was unanimously, and with loud acclamation voted to the chair. Upon assuming the seat of favour, a deafening outburst of applause indicated the pleasure it gave the meeting to see so forward a member voted to the distinction, but undismayed at this ebulition of kindly feeling*, and not in the least perturbed at the rfovelty of the situation, the Chairman carried himself with that grace and dignified bearing, born of an innate knowledge of his ability to conduct such a meeting with credit to himself and utility to the club and its interests, which completely commanded and won the entire confidence of the asi seoably.; Alter critically examining Balance Sheet, and dissecting with consummate skill the various items needing elucidation, much to the gratification of the meeting in being luckily in possession of so capable a Financier, the balance sheet w.as.ptt
to the - meeting, and approved with loud applause. The receipts were £12 Os. 6d. and expenditure £11 ss. Gd, leaving a credit balance pf 15s. The election of officers then took place with the followingresult. , ; Patron— R. Meredith Esq. M.H.B. President— J. Ingram, Esq. YicePresidents — Messrs W. Bassett, J. Brosnahan, J. McGrath, T. Pearson, J. Summerfield. Club-Captain— J. McGrath. Committee— Messrs W^ Pickering, D. McGrath. T. Harle, T. Summerfield and M. Doody. Selecting Committee, the same. Delegate to C. R. U— Mr T. ; H. Caverhill. Secretary and Treasurer— llr W,. H: Alford, (re-elected). Proposed by. J. McGrath. ..that 2s. senior, and junior ls. be the subscriptions for present season. Seconded by W, Pickering and carried. Upon conclusion of the business the Chairman said he could not leave the Chair without giving expression to. the unbounded gratitude he felt for the honor that had been conferred upon him that evening, and the gratification it afforded him of presiding upon such an important occasion. His heart and soul were in the work aud interests of the club, and to bring it into the very first ranks, of 'Clubs in the Colony. He referred .with pleasure and indeed he might say with pride to the play of last year, which had brought such renown upon the colours of the Club. They had - played eleven matches, had been victorious in six, lost four, and one was drawn, the result being that 114 points had been gained by the Club, as against 47 on their opponents side, (loud applause). No doubt bigger victories were in store for them duriug the coming seasou, and if the members would but lojally support one another, be attentive during practice, and bring to boar in their matches, good order and discipline with a perfect submission to the. dictates of the Captain, victory would agein adorn iheir banner, (loud cheers^. He would only be too glad, on any future occasion, when they happened to be short of a Chairman to "jump the claim,'' and, as in this instance, he would, he was not afraid to say, prove to be the "man in the gap." (Long continued and tumultuous applause). A vote of tbanks co the Chairman, and past office Bearers, brought the meeting to a happy termination.
