MINING IN VICTORIA.
"Mines and Mining in Victoria," is the- title of a paper we have received from the Government of Victoria. The first part deals with alluvial deposits of the Victorian gold fields"Few are aware of the extent and value of gold-bearing reefs and alluvial leads made during the past eighteen months on a number of undeveloped gold fields. In the memorable year of 1851 the total gold yield w?s 145,1370z. but by 1853 it had increased to 3,150,0210z. the largest yidd ever recorded. The paper contains several illustrations of machinery &c. employed in the gold- mining industry, such as tramways, telephones for mines, patent oil engine, &c, It also contains a detailed account of the various mining districts of Victoria.
