LOCAL WINTER FUNDS.
Mr Buddo M.H.R. has given £5 to be "divided between Rangiora and Kaiapoi for the relief of the unemployed. If things do not improve and that right scon the Oxford -people will have to make an effort to raise a winter work Fund. The Government is giving £ for £to local bodies in order that they may find work for the unemployed in their several districts, and it speaks well for Oxford that the needs of the unemployed up to the present time has not called upon the local bodies to set apart a sum for the distressed labourers in their midst. Some think with good reason that it must be an advantage to any district to receive money from the consolidated revinew to spend on necessary works and to a certain extent relieve the pocket of the local ratepayer, the only condition enforce is that the money must be spent with the unemployed.
