CHEAP BREAD.
By Jeremiah. There came a voice to the Prophet Alfred saying. My people mourn bacause of the price of bread. Now therefore I command thee harness thy "^moke and get the down the road even into the Cusfc and thus shalt thou say to the chief baker thereof make hot thy oven and knead and bake quickly 40 loaves of fine flour and when thou hast drawn them forth send them quickly by a trusty messenger to my people at Oxford that they may eat and be glad. The price thereof shall be fourpence for one large loaf and if he that eateth thereof cannot by reason of his poverty pay thee thy fourpence, then thou shall write in thy book fivepence and he that has eaten thereof shall not come again till he has paid *Hhe uttermost farthing. And. the people rejoiced because bread was plentiful in the land. Bread was baked by Dawn and brought into the city by a Waterman and there was Cust Broad and to spare.
