KAIAPOI MAORI PAH.
Prop. White Among Tne Maoris.
On Monday evening, June 3rd, it wa* a pleasant sight to see the old and young, male and female, Maoris entering their hall at their pah (four miles from Kaiapoi) to hear a lecture, which was illustrated by lime-light views, on " The Human Face aud How to Read It," by the writer. They paid the greatest attention to all that was said and applauded in a most vigorous manner any points that met their fancy or approval. Quite a large number came up ao the close of the lecture to have their faces read. Their young Maori faces fairly shone with intelligence, so that it was a pleasure for me to read them publicly. ' AVI had offered a prize to the boy and girl with the best hsads. I had some difficulty in deciding, as there were so many really good ones amongst those who came up to compete.
