SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

Sir — If you will allow me space in your Oxford paper, I should like to ask if it is the custom for school Committees to call tenders for public duties and then keep it private ? If it is a public school why not ht us know through your paper, who was tho successful tenderer. Our Oxford paper has plenty of space for what the restdents of this city are interested in. Tenders were called for Caretaker to clean school, not stated West or East Oxford. Now I heard that tbe late caretaker was lesigning her duties at West Oxford, so I came to the conclusion that it was "W 7 est. It wa3 neither stated on. specification, when duties were to commence or where tenders were. to be sent to. We all know that tenders are sent to the chaiman as a rule. There is a rumour that all the duties were not mentioned on the specification. The memo that was to be seen at the Secretaries house, the tenders were accepted on the 28th May for £1 4s. per month. lam led to believe io is the lowest paid for tbe same duties for the last seven or eight years.. Now I wish the Committee every success with the new caretaker, hoping they \sill get more satisfaction now, than when it was £1 10s per month. I trust the reader will not take any offence if I say that I think some of the tenderers were more in need of the few shillings per month, than the successful tenderer. ( I am not interested in school duties myself but I like to see fair play, an^d ; live and let live. a ;' ■'■ A' { j Yours &c. Oxoinon.
