-Band of Hope.-- A Band . of . Hope Meeting was held on Monday night I May 28th, m the Methodist Church, under rather': unfavorable circum- ' stances owing to the severe rain, yet a very interesting programme was gone through consisting of recitations and a Dialogue as follows and Reading. citation with 46 verses, entitled Taught from suffering, with good effect. Waimakabibi- Ashley Wateb Supply Boabd.— The meeting of this Board called for Tuesday lapsed owing to the want of a quorum . The chairman and Mr M. Dixon were present.' F. B. Lane:— Mr F. B.Lane will visit Oxford on June Bth. and 9th. He will have with him his usual well assorted stock of fashionable Jewellery also several special lines m Watches (Ladies and Gents) every article ia guaranteed genuine and the prices are the very lowest. All repairs entrusted to Mr Lane receive his personal attention. Winteb Evenings. — We are glad to know that the movement set going m Woodside for the recreation and mutual improvement of the young people m that locality, promises to be successful. At the first meeting there Were seventeen young men present. Games of various kinds (Draughts, Tiddledewinks and Halma ) were indulged m, while there were illustrated papers, as well as books for those who desired them. The School is open once a week and the charge for membership is one-shilling. In order to cultivate the art of " Storytelling, " each member is expected at certain periods to relate some story or anecdote for the benefit of the others. Each member will take his* turn at it. Illustrated papers &c. will be thankfully received hy Mr Watson, who is m charge, and who will return them to the owners when done with, if desired. We wish the movement success, and hope the example v/ill be followed m other districts.

The success has been an unparalleled one : its wonderful and varied qualities have made the * Health * Tea a household word m tea drinking communities and we have no doubt it will meet with the same approval here, j Caution. — The -travelling drapery and merchandise stpek company are 'oh the war path, arid; will m the course oi its travels visit Oxford with -the usua flourish of trumpets " without reserve every thing must go, &c, &c." By , curious coincidence these commercial philanthropists select ishis season of the year, just after harvest, for visiting this district, when the farmers wives may have a little ready money at their disposal. Let us hope that the farmers wives will not he victimized to the same extent as on the previous occasion, when they were lead to purchase I goods at a very high price that turned out valueless mbbish.
