OXFORD SLEEPERS.

The fact of the tenders for sleapers having been rejected by the Cora linissioners, was received with much surprise and created a general alarm, because it means not only a considerable reduction m the usual commerce of the District, but forced idleness during the dullest season of the year to a large number of hands, we are jaot beyond the mark when we state that the winters bread of about 150 individuals depends upon the sleeper interest. Messrs Buddo and Meredith were quickly on the scene and are doing all they can to remedy the evil. They addressed a large crowd at the Orange Hall on Wednesday night and explained that a telegram sent to tho Commissioners had elicited no reply. l A Committee of Sawmiilers with Mr Ingram and White was formed with the intent of doing all they could to

induce the Commissioners to give a supplementary order for sleepers. Sleeper TENDERs.-^The. following not very satisfactory or consoling telegram to Mr Meredith is just to hand— " In reply to telegram from Mr Buddo and yourself I am directed by the Commissioners to inform you they did not accept Oxford Tenders -for Sleepers r because they had tenders from other places more advantageous. E. G. Pilcher.
