OXFORD ROAD BOARD.

There was about 20 Ratepayers present at the annual meeting. The Chairman went through the whole of * the Board's accounts., explaining the nature, of them as he proceeded and remarked that he had not the usual satisfaction of declaring a surplus and the ratepayers would scarcely expect such a result in the face of the fact3 that their expenditure had been pretty heavy in fords and bridges consequent .upon unusual floods and the Ashley Bridge which had been practically renewed cost a good deal, of money, half of which their Board' had to pay and and all this had to be met out of a halfpenny rate which was found insufficient to meet current expenses; consequently there was a debit balance of £294 17s 5d against the general account jyhich liabilities have been met by appropriating other monies under the Board's control. This statement does not imply that the Board is in debt at the Bank, on the contrary, we have a comfortable balance when our accounts are taken in the concrete. The gross receipts have been £1285 8s lid and the expenditure £1580 6s 4d which has been appropriated as shown in the detail accounts already submitted to you. We estimate that the requirements of the Board for current expenses and extinguishing deficit will be fully met by levying a fd. rate which will produce £1090 '10s which with subsidies amounting to £62 10s and other sources such as License fees f &c. £180 will amount to £1585 15s 4d. The, Report and balance sheet subject to the approval of the auditor were passed and Messr3 Aldridge,*Dean and Borgeois complimented the Board and the Olerk upon the- able manner in 'which the Boards business -fiad been transacted } an(l, unanimous: -fv<>tes of thanks were carried and acknowledged and the GJerk. in, replying shewed by cbmparitive statem^tsiihafe.the Bjpard3 work was as cheaply supervised as during any period of the Boards History*
