WATER SUPPLY.
Sir. — Your Correspondent ofi last Saturday week, -rightly drew a comparison between the Rockford scheme as at present constituted and Mr Baxters Ashburton irrigation scheme of 1891,- Rockford is placed at £31,000 while the other, very similar scheme was placed at £377,000 and suggesting £100,000 as quite within the reasonable possible cost of Rockford ; considering the very unequal quality of this district, it is quite impossible that this scheme can go on without law and expense; at every turn. Many competant people have suggested that this scheme is a huge device for lawyers, pawnbrokers and engineers to j milk and rob the property owners with. Town-folk of Oxford, take my 4ip, if you want peace, water and a little money circulating m your midst, support the policy of men who , have sighed and published their determination to support a much cheaper and more popular supply, for the whole district, and especially support that astute Irishman who, at your numerously signed request, places his ability and time at your services ; his . task-! and .duties are most thankless and unen-%if-bler *--Itiis quiteS impossible that a
water supply can be forced, against their will, down peoples throats, the law does not allow it. Yours &c. Peace and Progress.
