A TRUE HEROINE.

Published by special request. ' Tis grand to read of the warriors deeds On the gory battle plain, Though for widow and orphan our heart often bleeds And Fathers, amongst the slain. Our Countrys honour we all uphold, Willing our hearts blood to shed, But cravens are sometimes amongst the bold Who venture their lives with dread. But hero's sometimes and heroines too Of whom the world never hears Will venture their lives with a purpose as true Begardless of doubts or of fears. A. case has just happened m this little place Should be written m letters of gold A feeble woman by the help of GoU's Grace The young facing death for the old. A noth- wester blowing both stormy and loud Sweeping down over mountain and plain A feeble old man frail, tottering and bowed Uneasy with ache and with pain. He dreamily left his bed and dressed Himself, at the dawning of morn Not thinking, the one that loved him best Lay waking though weary and worn. She left her bed to sooth him to sleep, But ere she could gain her end. A cry of fire that made the blood creep How can I describe the end f ? A blackened, dismembered corpse was all That was left, of this heroine brave. Her soul had gone to her Father above, The body will rest m the grave. Years may roll on, but the tale will be told Handed down from Father to son The deed that so quietly, bravely and bold Was by this young heroine done. This tribute of praise m language is rough, • Its accents may even sound harsh, The " well done " of the Master will be praise enough, For the soul of Elizabeth Marsh. W. A. G.
