BihhiA.no Match. — We understand that a billiard match has been arranged between ? layers representing East and West Oxford, lay will commence at Paget's Commercial Hotel on Thursday evening next at halfpast six. L.O.L. — On Friday evening, August 9th, the Orangemen of this district held their annual gathering at the East Oxford Town Hall. The meeting had been previously announced by posters as a "miscellaneous entertainment," with addresses by the Rev. J. G. Ellis and other clergymen. The attendance was not very numerous, notwithstanding the fineness of the evening — probably addresses are not generally attractive. Our readers must pardon the rather sketchy nature of the report, aB our information has not been furnished by a professional reporter. The Rev. J. G. Ellis Bpoke at considerable length, denouncing Home Rule for Ireland as '* Rome Rule," and the Hon. W. E. Gladstone as an old woman, who had never done any good, but a great deal of harm. Spaeches were also delivered by the Revs. Rogers, and Wagstaff. which were more m keeping with a miscellaneous entertainment. The former indulged m a few witty remarks at. the expense of the "North Canterbury Times." Miss Baxter sang several songs m a very pleasing manner. The choir of the Baptist Church gave some sacred selections m good style, and Miss Twose's fine voice was heard to great advantage. It is to be regretted that this young lady, and the friends who assist her, cannot ba persuaded to favor our secular concerts with a display of their talents. The gathering of Friday was a religio-political meeting to all intents and purposes. If we may venture to advise our Orange friends, we should say, "If you want a full house, provide a that will be acceptable to all sorts and conditions of men ; but if you simply wish to address members of your own Order, your own Hall will be large enough for the purpose, and the general public, who care for nothing but amusement, will not be disappointed.

Wesleyan Circuit Tea.— A pleasant social gathering waa held m the We_t Oxford "Wesleyan Church on Wednesday evening last, at which the young people mustered m great force. The tables were luxuriously laden with good things, and presided over by the following ladies of the congregation: — Mesdames Stubbs, Hawke, Marsh, and Ancell. Grace was said by the Rev. J. J, Pendray, and sung by the congregation, after which ample justice was done to the viands so liberally provided. When the tables were at length cleared, the meeting was opened by singing Hymn 306, (Sankey) and prayer was offered by the B?v. pastor. After anotner hymn Rev. Pendray (who waa the only speaker during the evening) explained the object of the meeting, which was for the purpose of raising a fund of _375, which, if raised, would be supplemented by a grant of £25 from the Connection Fund. Mi_s Twoso presided at the harmonium, and materially added to the success of the evening by her excellent vocal abilities. The choir rendered several anthems and hymns very nicely. Readings from the " British Workman " were given by MiBB Maude Cummins, and Mrs White. Recitatations were given by two young ladies whose names we did not catch, and by Mr Barnes : and a hymn was sung by a lady and gentleman with very pleasing effect. The Doxology and Benediction brought a very successful meeting tn a close.
