HOUSEHOLD LORE.

A good cleaning Jluld for a carpet, or for general use, is made by melting a bar of soap in boiling water and adding one pint of ammonia and two pints of clear water.

Another good cleansing fluid, for soiled or discoloured white enamel furniture, is made by dissolving one tablespoonful of soda in one quart of boiling water. , This should be used with a piece of flannel. When washing lamp chimneys, clean them first with newspapers, as this will save hands and cloths from soil. Also use newspaper to wipe sinks and stoves. Housewives should use oilcloth for pantry shelves and to put around the sink. It stays in place, wears well, is impervious to damp, and can be cleaned easily. A frayed rug can be renovated by binding the edges with stout braid of a harmonizing colour -to the rug itself.
