LARGE BRITISH ELECTRIC GENERATOR.

A new electric generating set of •sixteen thousand horsepower has just been installed in a power station at Bradford, England, bringing the total capacity up to about seventy, thousand horse power. Even this large addition will not, be sufficient to cover the demand for electric, power for more than a few years; and plans are being formulated for a new station where generating units of about 40,000 horse power will be used. In a v ll cases the steam turbines and generators for these monster sets will be made in British factories. The sane city has produced a remarkable" new type of electric vehicle—a trolley omnibus which can be run. on tramway routes, as well as on those equipped with the double trolley wire generally required for trolley omnibuses. On the tramway route the vehicle will use one trolley pole and a skate sliding above the tramway rail. The purpose of this hybrid vehicle is to enable the services provided on tramway routes to be extended without the necessity of laying new tracks, which is at present very costly.
