MARKET REPOIU 1.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports :—
Beef. —Beef has been fairly plentiful and values- much pn a par with last report, prime ox making from 32s to 375, prime cow 25s .to 30s.® The scarcity of feed, and general failure of the turnip crops point to probable improvement in the market. There is, however, an ample .supply at present for all requirements.
Mutton. —The market is steady and not over supplied. Very few lambs are offering. The feeding value of the later rape crops has been practically nil, and most of the sto;ck so fed has found its way back to the store pens. Store Cattle. —There is perhaps a ■slight improvement to report in store cattle ; certainly the tone of the market- is a little more hopeful, but that any appreciable rise will take place for some time is most unlikely. . It still seems that those who meet the market now will not have, cause- to regret it. Heifers in calf in a mild degree are the subject of enquiry, also calves, although as far as the latter is concerned, it has not been reflected in competition at the yards.
Store Sheep,—Whilst values have not reached 4iigh standard's, competition has on the .whole been brisk, and good yardings of sheep have been disposed of at what must be con'sidem! fairly satisfactory rates. There has been considerable importation of dry sheep from southern districts, and the fact that Waikato. notwithstanding the dry period through which it has passed, can absorb them, is •strong testimony to its capabilities. Lambs in particular are . drawing good competition.
Pigs.—The market for pigs has no^ altered since pur last report. Values at the yards .work out_ at about 6%d.
