The yellow man has invaded Paris as well as London, owing to the absence of domestic help. A newspaper depicts such a servant arriving at a French home, where the lady of the house exclaims in consternation, "Jilut he does not know a word of French! What shall we do ?" "Do not hesitate a moment," says the husband. "Learn Chinese at once!" Mr. Fisher, Minister of Education, •who is M.P. for English Universities and vice-chancellor of the' University, of Liverpool, was subjected to a good deal of good-natured ragging when he gave an inaugural address to the first-year students. The Minister found it rather difficult to obtain "a hearing until he appealed to the more experienced members of the Univprsity to go to sleep while he spo&e to; the freshmen. The invitation was' answered by a loud and composite snore, and from then onwards peace was restored. <9 ,
