The local postmaster, Mr J. G. MacDougall, advises us that the mails for the United Kingdom, which left New Zealand on May ,19. arrived at their destination safely.
Prizes for the mysterious envelopes in connection with the Red Cross Carnival will be available at the Red Cross shop to-morrow (Saturday) from 10 a.m.
The next meeting of the Paeroa/ Chamber of Commerce takes placo on Tuesday next, July IG, at 8 p.m.
Gas consumers should take note that Monday, 15th inst., is the last discount day.
The Borough foreman's report on the various works in the borough appears on our first page.
The furniture of part of a tixroomed house is offered for private sale.

A meeting of farmers and sett)ers is convened by the organiser of the Farmers' Union, Mr L. H. McAlpine. for Saturday, 20th inst., in the Druids' Hall, Paeroa. Some important matters to farmers are to be discussed, and the convener is part;cularly anxious that there will bs a large attendance.
At a meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee last evening Mr Ellis, one of the visiting committee, reported that there had not been any fire in the' infant room this winter owing to the iron chimney having rotted away and the fact that birds had got in and blocked the chimney pipe. Instructions had been given and the repairs were now affected.
At the Borough Council last evening an appeal was received from the committee of the Sanders Memorial Fund, but it was felt that as the matter would be before the public for some time and in view of the strained finances of the Council at the present time it was decided to hold the matter over for the present.
Mr Ben Gwilliam who has been confined to his bed through illness for the past ten days, is now sufficiently recovered to attend business, and will conduct his usual weekly sale at the Mart to-morrow.
It was mentioned at last night's meeting of the School Committee that some repairs to the school outbuildings were necessary, and it was decided that the secretary write to the Board asking when its inspector would be invPaeroa, so that the committee could meet him and point out the work that was required to be done.
At the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday judgment was given by default in the case of Hague-Smith Ltd. v. M. G. Power, claim for £34 2s Id, and costs £2 14s. In the judgment summons case of C. Jackson v. T. A. Pennell an order was made for the payment of £6 13s 6d, forthwith in default seven days' imprisonment in the Thames gaol, the warrant to be suspended so long as defendant pays 3s 6d per week to the clerk of the court, the first payment to be made on July 27, and subsequent payments every two weeks.
At the meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council last night Cr. Balcke said that the plans for the drainage and road schemes had arrived from Auckland, and he considered the Council should lose no time in going through them and deciding upon what work would be undertaken. The drainage scheme came to £37,960 and the roads to £81,000. Of course, he said, it would be ridiculous to jthink the Council would go in for such big loans, but portions of the work might be done with advantage. It was decided that councillors make themselves familiar with the schemes and then to invite the engineers down to discuss the position with the Council.
A very important sale is to take place at the Turua Saleyards on Monday, July 22, Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons having been instructed by Messrs Darrow, Grundy, and Thornton, on account of the death of one of its partners, to sell by public auction, three rich farms on the Hauraki Plains, all in luxuriant grass, and in the town belt of Turua. These farms are particularly well situated, all adjoining, and are now Being worked as one. Also will be offered, without reserve, two complete herds of dairy cows. Full particulars are given in the advertisement .in another column.
