COUNTING THE CHICKENS.

MODEST GERMAN DEMANDS. WHAT BELLIGERENTS MUST GIVE TO COMPENSATE GERMANY. AMSTERDAM, March 11. Successes in Russia and Rumania have led many German publicists to re-frame peace terms. Professor Haase outlines the terms to be imposed on Italy. As punishment for treachery, he says, she must serve the Central Powers economically for a number of years, cede the territory from the old frontier to the Tagiamento, restore Tripoli to the Turks, and give Somaliland to Germany. France must pay two thousand million pounds indemnity, cede Verdun, Belfort, Longwy, and Briey, the French slopes of the Vosges, the western p,ortion<of Morocco, part of French Congo, and French Somaliland. Prince Loewenstein urges the necessity for Germany demanding raw materials as indemnity. Canada, he J says, must supply copper, cobalt and leather; Australia spelter, wool, grain, and frozen meat; other coloniefi jute, oils, rubber, rice and,. tea. South Africa must supply gold ; France must give olive oil; Italy vegetables, silk, and hemp; Russia, wheat, flax, and platinum. Only in this way, he remarks, can war bt> made a source of blessing and save Germans from crushing taxation and j mass emigration. Destiny compels I these steps. If Germany neglected thss opportunity eternity would never give another chance.
