While.the Ohinemufi County Council was sitting yesterday afternoon, word was received by the Clerk, Mr R. W. Evans, ot the death of Mr Joseph Nathan.' Alter a vote of condolence was! passed, the .Council adjourned for tenminutea as a mark of respect to the deceased, who had occupied the position on the Council as representative of the Paeroa Riding. .

In connection with the' lecture on Ceylon, to be delivered by Mr C. M. Carter, of Auckland, in the Criterion Theatre to-night, the secretary of the Entertainment Committee advises us that Colonel Porritt and Mr H. O. Searle have donated two very attractive piizes to be given to the boy or girl sending in the best essay on the lecture. It is only occasionally that the people of Faeroa have an opportunity of listening to'a lecturer of Mr Carter's ability, so it is hoped that full advantage will be taken of the present opportunity. The price of admission is is to any part of the theatre, and children will be admitted for halt price.

The. "New Zealand Sporting and Dramatic Review " this week contains a variety of firsf-ciass illustrations. Several pictorial pages are devoted to returned New Zealanders from the Dardanelles, a bird's eye view of the Trentham camp, roll of honour, snapshots of the Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting and the Auckland Trotting Club's gathering, visitors ski-ing at Mt. Cook, native women at Raratonga knitting for soldiers in camp, hte-like picture of Miss Margaret Vinton, the American actress, and several stage scenes from the Hewbrew comedy, " Potash and Permutter," make up a very interesting issue.

A very enjoyable social 1 took jMace in the hall at Komata on Monday evening last in aid ot the Relief Fund. ' The committee, with Mrs Froggat as chairwoman and Mr Smedley as secretary, went to work with a will and decorated the hall very tastefully with flags and greens, many of the flags coming from Auckland. The floor was all that could be desired. .' A Pierrot Party trom Faeroaenlivened the evening with songs. Alter a very enjoyable supper and when, everyone was in a good humour, six dolls were auctioned by the Mayor, Mr Harker making a very.efficient clerk. The dolls were dressed by little Miss Berry and realised 34s 6d. Much credit is due to Mr and Mrs Froggat, who supplied the music, and Mr Smedley, for the success ot the evening. Mr Paul generously placed his motor carat the disposal of the Mayor (MrW. J. Towers) and party.
