In view of the recent reunion of old Thames residents, there ■is some controversy as to the holders of the first miners' rights issued at Thames. No. 2 miner's right was issued to the late C. F. Mitchell, who for many years conducted the Hauraki Tribune newspaper at Paeroa, and who was very 'proud of the fact that he was the holder of the second miner's right at Thames.

The clerk to the Piako County Council, Mr R. S. Hanna, mentioned at the Council meeting last week that a statement had gained circulation lothe effect that he had an interest in the Piako Contracting Company. He .gave the statement an emphatic denial. The Council accepted Mr Hanna's denial, the chairman stating that none of the Council gave the statement credence.
