A FRESH VALUATION.

WHAT THAMES COUNTY REQUIRES. -'

CHAIRMAN TO VISIT WELLINGTON.

The need for a fresh valuation of the Thames County was spoken of at the meeting of the Thames County Council yesterday, the subject being introduced by Mr Deeble. Mr Deeble said it was seven years since a valuation of the County had been made, and in that time the value of property had increased considerably. He gave numerous instances of properties that are a long way under valued, and said that if they were assessed at their proper value the Council would get a long way more revenue from rates. It the Council was allowed to make arrangements tor valuing, instead ot the [ work being undertaken by Government, there would be less room lor complaint. He suggested that the chairman and the clerk should proceed to Wellington to urge this matter on the Minister. . Mr Law agreed that it was desirable that the chairman should insist Wellington and bring this and other matters under the notice oi Ministers. If the Government was not going to make a this year it should allow the Council to do the work. The Chairman (Mr Bagnall) said he believed it would be in the interests of the County it somebody proceeded to Wellington to interview not only the Ministers, but also the heads of the depatfments, and if it was the wish ot the Council he would be willing to go. The Council and the district generally were labouring under disabilities, and there were several matters that required attention, j Mr Deeble then moved that the chairman and clerk proceed to Wellington to bring under the notice of Ministers the necessity for a re-valuation.and other matters of interest to the Council. This was seconded by Mr [Law, and was carried unanimously.
