WHITEHHVEN DISASTER.

INQUEST ON VICTIMS

EXPLOSION OF COAL DUST

AND GAS

[By Electric Telegraph.]

LONDON, December 3. The verdict at the inquiry on the Whitehaven disaster was that it was due to an explosion of gas and cord dust combined. There was insufficient evidence to show that it was due to a defective safety lamp. The closing of the pit was the rightful expedient, as there were no possible means of reaching the entombed.
