YESTERDAY'S POLL.

A QUIET ELECTION

The election of five members of the

Ohmemuri Licensing Committee took place yesterday at the various polling places throughout the electorate. The election was a very quiet one —in fact, it was about the quietest on record —and no interest at all was taken in the result/ At Paeroa Messrs T. Dea.ll and J. McDonnel were'the deputy returning officers, and they had a very "slow" day of it, only about 180 votes being recorded all clay. Mr Joseph Nathan, the returning officer, visited most of the polling booths during the day, and found everything proceeding smoothly. There were eight candidates" for the five seats, namely, Mr F. Cock, of Paeroa ; Mr W. Forrest, of Paeroa ; Mr Nepean Kenny, of Paeroa ; Mr A. Nelthngham, of Waihi ; "Mr J. E. Slevin, of Waihi ; Mr A. Tetley, of Paeroa ; Mr C. H. Trezise, of Karangahake ; Mr G. Yearbury, of Waihi. Of these eight, Messrs Cock and Trezise were previously members of the corny mittee.

The poll resulted in the return of Messrs Kenny, Slevin, Nettlmgham, Tetley, and Yearbury, the totals beingas follows :—Kenny, 693 ; Slevin, 633 ; Nettlmgham, 608 ; Tetley, 606 ; Yearbury, 561 ; Cock, 479 ; Trezise, 454 ; Forrest, 425.
