YESTERDAY'S POLL.

A QUIET ELECTION

The election of five members of the

Ohmemuri Licensing Committee took place yesterday at the various polling places throughout the electorate. The election was a very quiet one —in fact, it was about the quietest on record —and no interest at all was taken in the result/ At Paeroa Messrs T. Dea.ll and J. McDonnel were'the deputy returning officers, and they had a very "slow" day of it, only about 180 votes being recorded all clay. Mr Joseph Nathan, the returning officer, visited most of the polling booths during the day, and found everything proceeding smoothly. There were eight candidates" for the five seats, namely, Mr F. Cock, of Paeroa ; Mr W. Forrest, of Paeroa ; Mr Nepean Kenny, of Paeroa ; Mr A. Nelthngham, of Waihi ; "Mr J. E. Slevin, of Waihi ; Mr A. Tetley, of Paeroa ; Mr C. H. Trezise, of Karangahake ; Mr G. Yearbury, of Waihi. Of these eight, Messrs Cock and Trezise were previously members of the corny mittee.

The poll resulted in the return of Messrs Kenny, Slevin, Nettlmgham, Tetley, and Yearbury, the totals beingas follows :—Kenny, 693 ; Slevin, 633 ; Nettlmgham, 608 ; Tetley, 606 ; Yearbury, 561 ; Cock, 479 ; Trezise, 454 ; Forrest, 425. The details of the voting at the various polling booths are as follows : Waihi Central—Cock 151, Forrest 155, Kenny 337, Slevin 355, Tetley 323, Trezise 163, Yearbury 306. Waihi East — Cock 6, Forrest 7, Kenny 22, Nettlingham 24, Slevin 25, Tetley 22, Trezise 11, Yearbury 16.
