The Influence of a Hymn.
HOW A LADY DEVOTED HEE
LIFE TO THE POOR.
The death of Mrs Keogb, which has just taken place at Landsdowne Road, Londonfields, has brought to light' «. striking instance of the way in which a lady was influenced by a hymn to give up her life to the service of her poorer brothers and sisters.
Mrs Keogb's'husband was (says the Daily Chronicle) formerly a vicar of a pretty country village in Buckinghamshire, and one of his favourite hymns was "Weary of Earth," of which the Rev S J Stone, /iear of St Paul's, Haggerston, was the author. After Mr Keogh's death his widow wrote to the hymn writer, and hearing that his parish was one of tho poorest in London, decided to give up her country home and devote the remainder cf her life to alleviating thejsuflering of the poor people under his care. Accordingly, she removed to Londonfiei ls, and for twenty 3 rears visited and helped those in trouble and distress around her.
Her charity knew no limit, and even when ordered a drive for the benefit of her health she made' it the means of benefitting others by taking some poor ailing sister in"the carriage beside her. By her death the poor have lost a sincere friend
The Rev S J Stone was the author of several well known hymns, the most popular of them being " The Church's One Foundation." .
