THE BLACKBALL TROUBLE.
THE TYNESIDE MINERS
REFUSAL OF HELP
AN UNSYIL P A THETIC
MEETING.
[By Telegraph—Press • Agency] GREY MOUTH, Sunday
The Blackball miners received a great disappointment yesterday when the Tyneside miners, by a Large majority, refused to strike. Delegates from Blackball arrived to address the meeting, but were re-,, fused admittance, as they were not members of the union.
Mr Russell, a director of the Tyneside Company, and also a member of the union, attended the meeting, and pointed out the great loss that would incur by the mine being closed down. The vote against trie motion to strike was 78 to 12. The news was received in Blackball with disgust, it being understood that the Tyneside miners would stand by the Blackball miners,
. A meeting of the Wharf Labourers' Union was held this afternoon to consider the question of striking out of sympathy with the Blackball miners, and it was uuanimoiisly decided not to do so, and that a levy of five per cent on the men's total wages be made for the maintenance of the women and children. This represents £rom £20 to £30 per week. The sum of £5 0s 6d was collected in the hall.
