PAEROA DOMAIN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The first meeting of the now boarH was held in the CountyChambers last night Those pres- - ent were Messrs H. Poland, W % _ Forrest, J. M. Coate, ,S Craig, and W. McWatt-M-s. The absent members were Messrs Nicholls and Crosby. Aftrr the minutes of the previous meeting had been continued, Mr Poland said th.-it this being the first meeting of r.he newly gazetted board it was urcivssary to appoint a chairman and secretary. Mr Craig proposed that Mr Poland be appointed chairman. Mr Poland^ however, declined. Mr Craig was proposed as chairman by Mi; Fon'esfc, but he also declined. Mr Poland then proposed Mr Forrest. Tins nomination was seconded by Mr Craig, and on being put, was carried unanimously. Mr Forrest, upon taking the chair, thanked the members forelecting him to the position of chairman. He said he would like to have placed on the board's records the assistance and attention the retiring chairman, Mr Poland, had giv.il to the board. .It was entirely due to h:s (Mr Poland's) efforts that the additional ground had been granted. He would also propose a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Poland, and asked the members to carry it by acclamation, which was done.

Mr Poland thanked the members for the vote of thanks, but he thought there was one member of the board'more entitled to a vote of thanks. He referred to Mr McWatters, who had acted as secretary. In proposing Mr Me Waiters as secretary, he would also.include that a hearty vote of thanks be passed to Mr McWatters for the painstaking way he had carried out his honorary duties.

This vote of thanks was also carried by acclamation.

Mr MeWatterb.thanked the members for re-electing hira secretary, and stated that he was pleased to think that what he had done as secretary, to the board had. met with the'lapproval of the members, and he hoperHie would give satisfaction in the future.

It was resolved that the chairman, Mr Forrest, and secretary, Mr McWatters, sign cheques, and that the bank authorities be notified. :■:',

The chairman and secretary were authorised to prepare a report of work done in the domain to the Commissioner ot Crown Lands, as requested by the Lands Department. ' Mr Poland moved that tenders be called for fencing new ground and also for erecting a fence inside the ground to protect the trees.

This was seconded by Mr McWatters, and carried.

The speciHeations for the wor.k are to be drawn up by the chair ? man and Mr Craig.

It was resolved that Mr Craig confer with the caretaker re the alteration of trees and replacing trees that had not grown.

Mr Poland stated that it Was time the rotunda was erected. He proposed, and Mr McWatters seconded, that the matter of getting the plans prepared be left in the hands of the chairman.

This was carried. A number of accounts were passed for payment.
