The EngineerV Report was read as follows:— Gentlemen -1 have th c honour to report as follows :— ' "Contract $P« §9,5,-—The carrying but of this work, fy aftawiieta to^atds \Wailii, was deferred for one month at last Council meeting, I now therefore bring the question before you for further consideration. Contract N/o. 880.—100 cub.ic yards metal iv. Scotchman's. Gully. Shaw, EJrqs „ whose tender was accepted for this, decline to go on with the work. Amount of contract £27 la Bd, and forfeited deposit £1 ss. This is a work under grant, and I would recommend callingfor fresh tenders, or giving it to anyone willing to take it up at the above price. County Yard, Paeroa.—l would recommend that tenders be called for removing the old magazine buildings, and for erection of fence round the County yard, using the magazine material for this purpose. The yard, as' at '' pjiesfinj;, -js practically quite open, and as plant and material are kept in it, considerable loss is sustained, owing to their removal by persons unknown. , - Paeroa .Reservoir. —J: had this emptied and thoroughly swept out on Sunday last. There was very little sediment |o remove, £ut I found that all the concrete has b.ec6me. p,roke:n, away on the only slope where it was i laid. This as well as all sides and i bottom should be coated with cement j concrete, brought up in the form of a j wall at least one foot above the' level of the surrounding ground; also a drain out round the hilj side to carry off surf ace drainage. The sides and bottom, as at present, are simply rough, boulders gravel and clay which, while permitting percolation of drainage into the reservior, present at the same time, a surface difficult to clear, whereas, ferp tjie whole carefully cemented as above reooiumended, the process of cleaning would be simple and effective. The cost of this work, together with the temporary alteration of piping "during repairs, will be £125. ":' ■•■--•.^/- :-;• •: ; ,'; Extension of Sewers, Paoroa.—> Owing to the large number of premises between the Thames Eoad and Eailway Station, it will be necessary for the maintenance of health and pomfort to give facilities for carrying away the increasing house drainage, and for this purpose I would strongly recommend the continuation ofjghgi present sewer, from "^rnpf^Road corner along Normauby^iff£ elmout fcoads, thence under Railway aud along Puke Botyl $<5 main, outfall drain, also two branoli^sowei^ one from Bradley Street an>,vj r <' n^^ from the railway crossing at Emeu's coal sheds. The total length of this work will be about 50. ohviins, and will cosp upwards of £13(50. House Rubbish.—As it is a common practice to throw papers, dust, and all kinds of rubbish oil the roadways, j would Tocomraeucl tl^afc Ijuainess. people aud residents ia the priacipal streets be compelled to provide boxes into which to put such rubbish and sweepings, and that they place same at the outside edge of footpath, say on t\vq days in e^?V vreek, the County to provide a cart to remoy©' their contents to some distant poitjt. Kussell Street.^l^beg to ask permission to have the ti-tree olearodoff this between Normauby Eoad and Wood Street for a width of about 10. feet, aud alao aiew loads of gravel supplied and spread 2 feet wide. Without this! have no way to approach my residence on foot during the winter, except over an exceedingly muddy and slippery clay formation . The total cost will not exceed £5.

Karangahake Nightsoil Service.-— I have endeavoured by writing to Auckland, to obtain necessary detailsregarding plant, patent right, etc., but so far have not succeeded.* It will therefore, I think, be advisable that Igo to Auckland at once and so obtain without further delay all required infor/nation. Contract for Spall*.—The progress being fnado by the contractors for ixmirmM 906 and 907 (P. Teanor), 009 (0, glwrt), 910 and 911 (E. Bain), in mwk that those works cannot now b0 WfflpMwl in contract time, and as the " mmm\ Conditions " of contract provide that a fine be imposed for nori'COflapletion within a specified . time, and as the wet season, now approaching, will result in bad roads being made worse by spall carting which could have been avoided, I would recommend that the conditions of each contract be adheared to.
