OPEN COUNCIL

" Whoever knew .the truth put to the worse in ...a;free and open encounter."— Milton.\' / [The Editor is uot responsible", for opinions expressed by correspondents.] PA EJIOA CHOR4 L SOCfE IY. . ;. (To thR E litor.) '■ - Sju,—lu reading the annupl.report' of the Paeroa Choral Soci ty, published in your last issue, I noticed' thai praise was awai-ded to oevefaiof those who had assisted *in the opera? tions of the Socioty. Praise to those mentioned may, and possibly was merited, but tb^ere was one name omitted, whom I think deserved more credit for services rendered, than any person ever connected with the Society. I refer to Mr T. A. Moresby, who held the position of Secretary, from the inception of. the organisation. It was with Mr Moresby that the idea of forming a musical society first emanated, and it was without doubt due to his energy that not only (was the Society formed, but that; a : large measure of the interest displayed was maintained. Having been a member of tho Society, I am perfectly satisfied in my own mind ttiat Mr Moresby did the lion's ■ shar%pf the work connected with the Societyy and it was principally on account of his organising powers that.; tjie Society has kept together.. As the committee inadvertently .omitted \to mention Mr Moresby's name in iKp! report, I thiuk it is ouly fair to the; general public -though mo3t.'of them, are aware of,it already—to know that Mr Moresby's services to the Society were invaluable, and should cci tamly receive some token of appreciation.— Yours, etc., • Ant Ex-Member.
