Cr ISaunders thought that the time had come when the accounts for each riding should be kept separately, so that they could see where the money went to. The Chairman said they could not do this until they agreed on their interest in the main roads.
Cr Bowler thought that in the past all the ridings had been treated fairly. ;
Cr Cassrels said that the upcountry people used the main road through Paeroa more than did the Paeroa people. 1 Cr Moore said he did not believe in members trying to put one district agajnss another/ as r Qi Saunders was doing. They all had an interest in fche goldfields, no matter what part of the district they re,sided i*. Or Saunders said that morj money had been spent on the road through Paeroa than Paeroa contributed to the revenue. Cr Poland said that this was a main road. Cr Draui* did not think any feeling should be brought into the matter. They should do fche most neee33ary works, no matter in what ridings they were situabed. Cr Saunders saicl that his riding (Waihi) contributed the moat revenue, and should therefore have the most expenditure. ;: Cr Cassrels isaid that the mining companies had ruined their river, arid the people -of PaeVba hft#giv#n quite enough to the goldfields. They had to pay for their wattr supply for Paeroa because the mines polluted the river. Cr Foland said that Paeroa was in existence long before Waihi, and would always be able to look after itself. Cr Moore said that the main roads should be attended to before dividing the money betvyeen the ridings.' The items on the Engineer's schedule were than considered, and it was decided tfyat the" most important worlds should be attended *o first. The Chairman moved that tenders be called for £2000 worth of work, returnable at next meeting, the Engineer to decide which are tha most necessary works. Cr Cassrels seconded, and it was carried.
