There are twenty-seven polling places, the principal being Paeroa, where Mi* Fergusson (the Returning Officer) will be in charge. He will be assisted by poll clerks, and every arrangement has been made so that the polling may be properly carried out. The polling booths will open ■•at. 9 a.m. and close all (j p.m. All who possibly can should vote in the early part of the day, as it is probable that there will be a large number who will have to leave the recording of their votes until between five and six .o'clock. The results will ha announced by Mr Fei'gusson as they are received from the various booths, and most x>£ the returns will come to hand this evening. However, should the polling be very even, the result may be in doubt until to-morrow, when the returns will be received from
those places to which there is no telephonic communication. For the convenience of those wishing to despatch or receive telegrams the post office will be open until two o'clock to-morrow morning, and telegrams sent after eight o'clock this evening will be charged at urgent rates.
In addition to the ballot for the return of a member ot' Parliament, a poll will be taken on the Liquor Question. Electors may vote forthe licensed houses to remain as at present, they may vote for a reduction of the number of licenses issued in the district, or they may vote that no licenses be granted in the district. The prohibition party has selected the Rev Rule and Mr Tetley to appoint scrutineers at the ballot boxes in the interests of prohibition,Awhile Mr Lawless and Mr Bastings have been selected by tbe anti-prohibition party to make similar appointments in the interests of anti-prohibition.
