PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE.

_ „,,. _ / jrt* (To the Editor.) .;* V Sib, —Up to the present date I have not seen in either of our local papers the fact that there is to be a change in the management o£ the fire brigade. I allude to the displacement of Capt. O'Hara from the captaincy. By way of preface I may say that almost from the formation of the brigade O'Hara has been in charge, and he has discharged his duties in a prompt and satisfactory manner. His.long experience in other bodies of a similar nature has enabled, him to drill a good number of recruits, until we have at present a good, stalwart, willing crowd of firemen, who are ever ready to place themselves in danger in order that they may benefit their fellow citizens. Whenever their services have been required it was very noticeable that they were a well trained little band, and that their tutor had spared no pains in getting them to a state o* efficiency. In my opinion it is a most injudicious move on the part of some dissatisfied—or rather ambitiQiis—firemen to have our present captain re^ moved from office. I say so for many reasons. As I have already stated, our firemen are good workers and willing, and without a good leader they would be like a ship without iis captain. Their experience is limited to the'Paeroa Fire Brigade, and the gentleman who has now been nominated for this position has had no past experience whatever. Therefore, I consider that the public, who have property at stake, and who contribute towards the maintenance of the brigade, should take the matter up. If ,it is found that the men cannot agree to Captain O'Hara's reappointment, then some competent man must beimported. I trust this matter will 4^HH^Pallowed to pass unnoticed. —I ißnTetc, A Property Owner.
