DRAINAGE.
We must give the County Council credit for tho timely cleaning out of the main Paeroa drain. Mr Silcock and a gang of men have been doing real good work, as far as their authority permitted during the past week or so. But more is required. The drain should be deepened at least 18. inches at the mouth, and minor drains should be reticulated into it, with provision for flushing, now that water is so plentiful. The water-tables in the main streets are a great eye-sore, too. From Price's to the Railway Station either concrete or timbered channels should be constructed each side of tho road, and should be penodically flushed. The grass-grown so-eallod water-tables are now mere factories of bacilli, and the late infant mortality is not to be wondered at. The mere cutting of the grass and weeds makes the sides of the road look neat, certainly; but we want proper drainage in the town, not gardening. It is* to be hoped that the Council will accept these hints before the humidity of spring comes along. Now is the time m act before the heavy rains fairly sot in.
