A tragedy.occurred at Melbourne in .the Eastern Markets. -, A phrenologist named Gordon Medos attempted to : shoot Mrs Stevens, and when the shot .failed to take effect he sevely belaboured her on the head with the weapon. Mr Stevens rushed to his wife's assistance, and Medos shot him dead, and afterwards cut his victim's throat. A man named Eeedman then appeared on the scene, and Medos stabbed him severely in the eye. Modos, who was arrested with great difficulty, was under the impression that the other stallholders were trying to deprive him of a livelihood.
