Turua, April 9. , On March 11th, the school children's
picnic was lield, when over. 100 excursionists left here en route for Te Aroha by Tt.il. They were conveyed to the Miatatoke railway station in brakes supplied by Mr J. Uawkes, of Thamesv The outing was a most enjoyable one, and all speak in the highest praise of the To Aroha DoawtiiTi, its hot springs, and bath??. Me Shroff, the hsad teacher, is to be ce*ap?.imented for tho way he carried out tihe day's programme. I understand that iv future a mail will be made up at the Paeroa office for tiere ~!>y the Auckland! steamers *4Softeia as required. The scb.ooner Gisborne arrived here onErlda} last, andthebsa'queWenoia on Satmday. The former is loading for Timviru, and the latter for Auvtralia.
The Late rain, has freshened up the grass, and feed is now plentiful. Messrs Prcctor and Elvin have started or their contract on the TuruaNethertou road. I hear Ihey could do with a few good men. Cricket seems to have completely died. out. Lawn tennis hsm had a bit of a rum; the interest in this is rtlso on the On Mjoaday last the school re-opened after thie Easter vacation.
