General Men-it has been appointed to command the corps, which is to support Admiral Dewey at the Phillipines.

The American Senate are endeavouring to obtain a suitable coaling station in foreign water. A fire in Madrid has destroyed a week's bread. A cruiser has been despatched with 150 tons of ammunition for the fleet under Dewey, at the Phillipines. The Daily Telegraph states unofficially that the Foreign Ambassadors at AVashington are discussing a movement in favour of peace.
