LOUIS BRENNAN.
A writer in the " Charlfcon Independent" thna writes of Louis Brennaa, of torpedo, fame, who has lately been presented to the Queen, and received a birthday honor in the shape of a G. 8.: "** We kaew Louis. He was a very- unassuming young man then. Hd lived an Fitzrqy, had a wonderful retriever <dog, a more wonderful pigeon trap, and altogether wa« a rising young man. He 'was fiddling with a reel of cotton on a table one night, and found that the reel didn't come towards him when, he hauled on the string, and out of that, we believe, came the invention of his famous invention. He received £112,000' from England for the in-, Tention, a captaincy in the Royal Artillery, and a retaining fee of £2000 •or £3000 a year besides. He now fijpends his summer months in the south of France. He was borne in Ireland, «o the was, came out here when very young, went through a course of hard vrork whilst a youth, and now in the wide world there is no name which is "better known than his. He went home again to Ould Ireland, married a sweet ""colleen" about a year ago, and now ibis address is" Captain Lewis Brennan, €.%; Admiralty Office, England." Louis Brennan, C.8., was a genius. He was a sort -of a modern Angelo. He could carve out anything with a penfenife, he invented a system of short* hand, and likewise played the piano. He *ooHld sketch very cleverly.; you would $3ass him <in the street, and never dream h& was anything out of the common. Bat lie w*s, and don't you forget it.
