The cost incurred by the Wellington Benevolent Institution in maintaining an old man who recently died was about £90, and an account for that amount was sent to the Public Trustee, the deceased, it turned out, having left some little'property;; fl •he-Public Trustee was able out of the proceeds of thei sale to pay a portion of the amount owing to the Benevolent Institution, and the fact was duly chronicled in the-newspapers. A fevv :: days ago the trustees of the institution were surprised to receive a.letter from a son of the deceased asking what dividend had been paid in his father's estate. The trustees knew that • there';; was a r son ; somewhere^ in' the ■colony, but until the letter was received they Iwere ignorant of hisiiwh(Bie|bouts. they know where he lives they have decidea to make a claim on him for half the cost of his late father's maintenance.
