THE CASE OF MR MARRINAN

„' ,At ,ttie meeting of the Hospital Trustees on Monday evening, Mr Robson, r .#£ Paeroa., stated that the Ohinemuri

residents were now satisfied that none, of the Trustees had acted unfairly in j the above matter, but' still he would ■ like 'some further explanation of the ] affair. ' | The Secretary (Mr Bruce) explained i that'the case was left'to the discretion of the Resident Surgeon. Dr Williame had consulted the Trustees, who referred him to 'bye-law 173, which allowed only two months' residence in the Hospital for an incurable case. The surgeon had nob done anything out of the way "in discharging Marrinan at j the end of seven months, as Marrinan -did not now requite medical treatment,! but if at any future time he was again so ill as to be compelled to take 'to his bed,.he would then 'be a fib subject for the Hospital. -■ , Mr Radfbrd said that it was reported that his was-the man who hid made" it his business to have Marrinan discharged, and he gave the'accusation a[ most emphatic denial. He had remarked before, and said, it now, that he j was very much surprised that anyone would reside in fche hospital for seven' months without making any effort to-' wards payiiivg expenses; but no' word j had been spoken by himself or by any other Trustee, that was as far as he knew, about, discharging the man, this act being left altogether in the hands of the surgeon. He thought it would be a good plan for ,the Resident Surgeon to supply a report to the Trustees every •two months. , ■ i"

I Mr Duulopsaid he was sure everyone would sympathise with ,t,he; Trustees 'in! this matter. ; rile! himself-WjAS informed by Dr Williams jbhatthe faanhad Jbeen. too 'long in; the|'hospital' and -did notj require medical treatment any ;lpnger. : :, M The%iatter/then-dropped.— ■"Thames; Advertiser." ■ ■"-" s±-s--'"-y-^au-\s\ci
