FOOTBALL.
Thames High School v. Paeroa Juniors. The above match was played'last 'Saturday afternoon in Mr Crosby's paddock. There were a good number ■of spectators, amoDgst whom were >some of the fair sex. The game, which .was very 'interesting j and; played in' a ifriendly spirit,, resulted in a win -for the High School by .10 to 4. ■Messrs Baker and Moore captained the High School and Paeroa teams resjpectively. . ; .;■: > " ,-..-. In the first spell the High School scored two tries, from one of -which a :goal was kicked. • Ooote obtained a try for the local team,; the attempt at. ,goal being taken by Littlejohn, who imade a splendid but unsuccessful ikicfe. In the second spell Paeroa played .determinedly ianti made numbers of attacks on. their opponents' line, but i^he visitors were not to be denied and
by good passing and dribbling always cleared their lines. In one ..of the rushes A. McfQ-uire, who was shifted forward, rushed the ball over the line and P. Moore 'following up secured a try. He also took the place kick &c<i and made a good but fruitless kick. Through Moore rabbiting "the High School obtained a penalty kick, from which Laird had no difficulty in converting a goal. Towards the end of the spell Paeroa hemmed in tlieir opponents but were unsuccessful in scoring, Messrs Purdie and Eusden, asutnpires, anu Mr Kenrick, as referee, gave every satisfaction. A. McGuire and P. Moore were out of their,place as backs, when put in! the for wards they, troubled the visitors J time after time. "Ernie Hafcton played well at half.,; he should learn to pass .quicker. Jack Ooote hard from start , to fini3h, and;played his usual,game. Jim McGruire was,the daddy of the for^ wards; he worked from start to finish, and was well baaked up by Basley. Drop-kick.
