Two local accident cases were admitted'to the Thames hospital on Monday. The first was a lad named Angus Gibbons, son of .Mr GibboDS. of the Junction Sawmill, who was suffering from a broken arm sustainpdirom a fall off a horse. Ihs second accident was that of a young ,man named James Smith, who was brought in from Karangahake with his left knee badly injured. It appears that he had ridden into'Karangahake from Waihi during the-morning, and left his horse in a yard in Shepherd's Hotel. On returning to the yard the horse escaped and made for the Gorge' Road, and Smith made, off in pursuit. He overhauled the animal in the gorge, and managed to get hold of the girth with .one hand and the pommel of the saddle.with the j other, but at this moment the animal swerved quickly round and pitched Smith over the side of the road for a distance of about 15 feet, with the resultthafc his knee was badly injured. On being brought into the hospital Dr Williams at once attended to the injury, but it is probable that Smith will be laid up forsome time.
